Mandarin is one of the most important languages in our aspiring world. After taking three years of mandarin with Ms. Wei and Mr. Lien, I have not only learned the Chinese language in terms of writing and reading, but also about the culture and traditions carried in China.
Hometown and ethnicity project- In this project I made a power point of my mom's and dad's original hometown and country and presented it to the class. We included reasons of why our families came to America, what they were seeking, and interesting facts and things we learned about our families that we never knew before!
Penpal Project- This year we began writing letters to ELS students and calling them our "penpals". Because our class is learning Chinese and the ELS students of Keppel are learning English, our class writes to them in Chinese as they write back in English to us. We learn about their hobbies, what their lives are like, why they came to America and what they like about living here, etc. It's interesting to read letters from the ELS students because you can tell they try their best to speak English!
